We were both born in Oregon and have lived here most of our lives. The ocean, the forests, the mountains, and the deserts of the West are the inspiration for our work and style.

JIM

I have loved rocks and gems since I was a little boy. My great uncle Raymond (my grandmother’s brother) was a serious rock hound and lapidarist. The picture of him in
my mind, even today, is a craggy faced older man towering above me, wearing a cowboy hat, bolo tie with turquoise and a big silver belt buckle with a polished agate front and center. The classic Southwest cowboy! His workshop was a wonderland of rocks, slabs and all sorts of mysterious equipment that he would use to cut and grind and polish rocks. I loved spending time in there with him when we visited.

I also loved to go fishing, and sometimes uncle Ray would take me, and when we came to a big gravel bar we would stop and spend most of our time looking for agates or colorful jaspers or a piece of petrified wood.

I never lost the love for searching gravel bars along a river or wandering deep in the desert looking for unique and beautiful stones, but raising a family kept that in the background for many years. As our kids got older, I started spending more time working on rocks again - Oregon sunstones, Montana sapphires, obsidian, agates, jaspers, petrified wood - just about anything that is beautiful and takes a nice polish.

MERRY

I earned my college degree in graphic design and I have always loved creating. I still have a box my mom saved that says “Merry’s Early Artwork.” I enjoy working with silver, clay, watercolors, sewing, anything creative or artistic and inspired by nature.

As Jim began honing his lapidary skills, I wanted to use the beautifully finished stones to create the kind of jewelry I wanted to wear. That meant something hand-crafted, natural and local - not from a factory or made with dyed or imitation materials. Simple and classic that I can wear everyday.

I put my creativity to work and have found it very rewarding to dust off skills that have been dormant for some time! I thoroughly enjoy the transformation from raw materials to finished jewelry. Working side-by-side in our studio has also been rewarding and a perfect way for Jim and I to spend creative time together. I love the story behind each stone, knowing where it came from and then creating a piece of jewelry for you with genuine meaning.

  • AUTHENTIC

We hand-make all of our pieces. This includes cutting and polishing each stone from the rough and fashioning the solid silver components. When we occasionally use a pre-made finding it is always quality, solid sterling silver and we are always completely transparent.

  • SIMPLE

We want to create jewelry that is everyday wearable art in a contemporary style. Our focus is to bring you something that is unique - something that you can wear to work, on a web meeting, to the store, or out on the town. We prefer clean natural lines, inspired by nature, and we strive to incorporate that in our work.

  • NATURAL

The stones used in our jewelry are ethically sourced and completely natural. With only a very few exceptions they are not treated in any way and the colors are never enhanced. We let you know exactly what stone is in your jewelry and where it came from to create a personal connection with the history of your jewelry.
